staff do on a daily basis with our students.
If your child would like to participate below are a few ideas.
* Write
a thank you note
* Send
a flower
* Draw
a picture
* Send
a sweet treat
* Make
a thank you poster
* Help
in the classroom
Thank you for taking time to let our teachers/staff know
how much they are appreciated here at New Berlin. National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11, however; we are recognizing teachers this week due to Literacy Week at New Berlin being the same week.

In Memory of Maggie the Reading Dog
In Memory of Maggie the Reading Dog New Berlin Elementary staff dedicated a plaque to Pawsitive Pets and Linda Tipton, in honor of our Maggie the Reading Dog, who passed away in March. The plaque will be hung in the front office to always remember Maggie, who had come to NBE every Tuesday since the school opened. Not only did some of the kids get to read with Maggie once a week, Maggie and her other dog friends also visited NBE during the Polar Express and the other various Family Nights so everyone could read to Maggie. Linda also often used her own money to provide stickers of Maggie to each and every child that read with her during those nights, and Linda and Maggie always brought books to the Tuesday kids. At the end of their session, Linda would present the kids with a certificate and a photo souvenir which sometimes included a personalized picture of the child reading with Maggie. Maggie also was a popular Celebrity Reader every year during Literacy Week. We will miss our Maggie the Reading Dog, but we are excited to meet our new Reading Pup, Jasper, who will start in August!

FCAT Assessment Begins April 16
Good luck to our third, fourth, and fifth grade students who will be taking the FCAT state assessment starting Monday, April 16.
It is extremely important that your child is present at school each day of testing and that he/she is on time. Testing will begin promptly at 8:45. Students who arrive late will not be allowed to enter their classroom until testing is over.
Here are a few suggestions…
Make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep and breakfast.
Avoid making dental or doctor appointments on testing days or checking your child out early.
Try to make the morning of the test a pleasant one. Do not add to your child’s stress.
Remind your child to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher, to read the directions and each question carefully.
Tell your child to attempt to answer all of the questions on the multiple-choice portion of the test and not to leave blanks. There is no penalty for guessing when a student is uncertain of the correct answer.
Encourage your child to stay focused on the test, even if other students finish early.
Good luck students... you are ready!
