Science Night January 26 at 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m

Please join us this Thursday evening, January 26 for Science Night. The 4th and 5th grade science projects will be on display in the school cafeteria. Come see the amazing experiments! Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m.

Oh Seuss! The Science of Seuss Day

Do you know the science behind Seuss? Friday, January 13, students in kindergarten through third grade at New Berlin Elementary combined literacy and science together to find out. Kindergarten and first grade students read the story Bartholomew and the Oobleck and My Many Color Friends. After reading the stories, students made an Oobleck… an experiment that allowed them to see a liquid turn into a solid right before their eyes and a color wheel to show how secondary colors are made. Students in third grade also made an Oobleck and participated in a science experiment from the book The Sneetches.

Second grade students read the story; My Fine Feather Friends and Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur?
The students learned about the characteristics of birds, the types of birds in the community, and then used a milk carton to construct a bird feeder. For their second experiment they used plaster and clay to make a fossil. They learned how fossils are formed and the different types of fossils.

Mrs. Jenning's first grade class used the book, Horton Hears a Who. They placed a 'dust speck' on a microscope slide, looked into the microscope, and observed what was there! The students then drew a picture. They also learned about sound.

During the month of January, all NBE students have been working on classroom science projects using the scientific method. Fourth and fifth grade students have been working on their individual projects. Thursday, January 26, the school will host Science Night in the school cafeteria beginning at 6:00 p.m. Science projects will be on display and Science Fair winners will be announced.
